We had a very eventful day today!
As many of you know, there have been concerns with Elora's digestive system. We have been asking for prayer in this area & hoping that her little belly would find some relief since she was not "going" in the way that she should. There were some tests run on her system this week that were a bit inconclusive, but she was being monitored very carefully each day.
This morning we received a call from the doctor, surgeon, and anesthesiologist letting us know that her belly was starting to harden (not a good thing) and they recommended moving forward with the surgery on her intestine right away. As long as she was stable in other areas, which she was, it was a good time to do this procedure. Correcting her digestive issues means that she would be able to be fed breast milk, which is essential to her growth and healing.
The procedure lasted about an hour and went as smooth as possible! They made a 1-inch incision on her belly and were able to go in and clear out the blockage in her intestine (this blockage is called Meconium Ileus). This means she now should be able to digest properly on her own and will be able to receive milk feedings in the next few days or so.
As nerve wracking as it was to think of our baby girl undergoing surgery at 2.5 weeks of age, we felt a peace about it and knew this was a step towards her healing and growth. As soon as we saw her after the surgery - it was evident how great her belly looked (it used to be very bumpy and distended).
We thank the Lord for His protection over Elora today and look forward to her continued progress!
Great news. It is awesome that there are doctors that know what to do and how to do it!!
