Surgery #2

Today Elora will be going in for her second surgery on her intestine at 1:30 PM. We feel so bad that she has to be operated on again - yet are confident in the surgeons decision to move this this direction. This surgery will bring a lot of relief to Elora and will also mean that she can finally eat! She endured the last surgery and anesthesia like a rock star & we are confident she will again this time. Thank goodness we have such a fiesty little girl!

This surgery is called an Ileostomy. This means they will be bringing a section of her small intestine to the surface of her skin. For a while she will have this on the outside of her belly and a bag will be attached to collect her waste, which will be cleaned out every 3 days. Later (approx. 3-12 months), they will go back in and reattach it inside. There is a specialist at the hospital who is walking us through this and will teach us how to clean & change her bags, since she will most likely still have them when we take her home. Also during the surgery they will be taking some biopsies to test other parts of her intestine.

Oh, the stories we will have to tell Elora when she is older!

Please pray along with us today for Elora, the anesthesiologist, and the surgeons. Please pray for a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery. Please thank the Lord that this surgery exists and can be performed on such a small baby. Please pray for Peter and me (and our families) as we go though this nerve-wracking day.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
