2 pounds!

My sister, Becca, was in town this past weekend. We had a great time together and she was able to spend a lot of time at Children's Hospital with Elora. My sister hadn't seen her since a few days after she was born - so she was in awe of how much she had changed and grown even in a few weeks!

In other news - unfortunately, Elora has not yet gone "#2", even after her surgery. The doctors have been watching her very carefully and are leaning more and more towards a second intestinal surgery this upcoming week. The surgeons are meeting Monday morning to discuss the plan for her. We will be sure to post information once we know. As much as we hate the thought of her having to endure another surgery, we trust the doctors and know how important this surgery will be for her to move forward with feedings. Feedings = growth & health!

The good news to report is that she has been growing well considering that she has not received milk feedings yet (she currently is fed an IV mixture of sugar water, protein, potassium, sodium and other nutrients). She now weighs 2 lbs! Overall the rest of body is doing well. She is still on a ventilator to help with her breathing, but slowly but surely her settings have been lowering, which means that she is breathing more on her own.

The weekend ended on a high note -Peter held Elora and it was great family bonding time! (sorry about the blurry pictures, we can't use a flash in the NICU and the lights are almost always dimmed).
