Surgery Update

Thanks to everyone for praying for Elora's hernia surgery.  We are happy to say that it went very smooth with no complications! She hardly seemed to notice that anything even happened.
We spent the night at the hospital the day before the surgery. We got a room at the Ronald McDonald House, which is right down the hall from El's room. We woke up, had breakfast, and gave her a bath. We walked with the nurses around 12:00 noon as they wheeled her up to the pre-op area where we met with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.  Around 12:30 they brought her back to the OR and her surgery started about 12:55.  We were told the surgery could last up to 1 hr, but they were done in about 25 min!  We had to wait about 1.5 hours before we could see her as she was in the recovery area.
After we got her back to her room, she woke up not to long after and even was ready to eat! We were told that she may need some stronger pain medication such as morphine, but she never needed it and only took about 3-4 doses of Tylenol over the few days.  Her incision looks great and we were told we should hardly be able to see it after about 2 weeks.  Amazing!

We are (again!) so thankful for Children's hospitals and the amazing staff of highly qualified professionals that are there. We met a family this week whose 4 month old daughter has had 3 open-heart surgeries and a stomach surgery since she was born.  Can you imagine?  But, these doctors are capable of operating on the tiniest of bodies.  That is a true calling!!

Again - thanks for thinking and praying for us last week. It was a lot of sitting around and feeling slightly on edge. But, she is over that hurdle and should be ready to come home THIS WEEK!!!

After her pre-surgery bath. She is checking herself out in the mirror to make sure she is squeaky clean!

One last cuddle before the surgery - getting her all warmed up!

Getting wheeled back to the Surgery Center

Waiting in the pre-op room for the surgeons to come get her

Chillin' out right before surgery - thankfully she had no idea what was coming!

Post-surgery sleepies. She had an IV in her left arm for about 24 hours after the surgery.
