We are excited to announce we are having a BOY!
On Oct 13 I had an in-depth ultrasound followed by a consultation with the Perinatologist. It was a great appointment from start to finish including the fun news that we will have a boy! I have to admit, I went into the ultrasound that day thinking they were going to tell us we were having a girl. I have only sisters and one daughter, so surely more estrogen was in my future, right? Lo and behold, the boy "parts" unquestionably showed up on the plasma screen in front of us just minutes after we started the ultrasound. I cried. But, to my surprise they were VERY HAPPY tears. Tears of joy and thankfulness. I honestly didn't know how I would react if we found out it was a boy. But, seeing him up on that screen, taking his hands in and out of his mouth, wiggling like crazy, fully human and beautiful, I couldn't help but feel so fortunate to be the mom of a girl AND now a boy.
We received great news on his health, too. All his measurements were on track, everything they looked as appeared normal, and there were no concerns at all with his health and growth. Great news! We also received great news on my health as well. After they did the full ultrasound on the baby they did an ultrasound on me as well. They checked my placenta, my cervix, and especially my uterine arteries. Apparently, if I was showing early signs of preeclampsia, the blood flow through my uterine arteries would be more constricted. This was not the case and the Perinatologist was very pleased with what she saw.
The plan going forward is that I will have regular checkups at the OB/GYN every 2 weeks starting at 22 weeks gestation. I also will have a follow up appointments & an ultrasound every 5 weeks with the Perinatologist. The OB/GYN will be looking closely at my blood pressure, swelling, and weight gain. The Perinatologist will be looking closely at the growth of the baby.
The same evening as the ultrasound we had both our parents over for dinner to tell them the fun gender news. Although my grand reveal plan failed a bit (Elora was supposed to be part of the reveal and she wasn't feeling so cooperative that night!), we still got a great reaction from our parents and they are excited to welcome a little boy in Feb!
We are so grateful for the good reports so far on the pregnancy. Thanks to all of you for your support and prayers! Here are a few more pics from the day of the ultrasound:
