Our Christmas travels went better than I expected! I am usually not one to worry much, but the thought of taking a toddler on a 3-stop, week+-long, traveling-by-car trip just sounded like a recipe for stress.
I am thankful to report that we only had one meltdown in the car, no sickness, and no car accidents! We loved being with both of our families and was so glad that this year we got to see ALL of them!
Here is the breakdown of our trip:
Stop #1: We rented a house in Galena, IL. Never been there? You have to. I think I would rate it one of the most charming Midwest cities! Little shops, cafes, and rolling hills – what is not to love? We opened presents at home Christmas morning and then left for Galena that afternoon. We enjoyed two nights there just the three of us and it was wonderful. It broke up the long drive to IN, which was indeed great for Elora.
Stop #2: Winona Lake, IN. We spent 3 lovely days with the Morrow clan at Peter’s middle brother’s home. His other brother (and family) from Florida were also there so we had a full house! It was great for Elora to spend time with her four cousins. The ladies went shopping, we all ate, sang, and laughed A LOT!

Stop #3: Chicago, IL. Last stop was celebrating a combo Christmas/ New Years with my family. We enjoyed time at my sister’s house, chillin’ out, eating good food, and we spent a little time with our kids at the mall. It was a great way to end of travels AND we got out of Chicago just in time for their big snow storm!
