Lately people have so kindly asked where we are in the adoption process, so I thought it was time for an update.
If you are not already aware, we have decided to adopt and have chosen New Life Family Services as our agency (click here to read the post about our decision to expand our family through adoption). This fall has been filled with paperwork, getting physicals, getting fingerprinted, and getting background checks run. Before Christmas we sent in a packet full of papers and documents and then heard back from them last week. We were introduced to our social worker who will be walking us through the rest of our process, which is our home study. We meet with her in about 3 weeks for our first of 6 meetings.
Over the next 3-4 months we will be meeting with our social worker, completing more paperwork, attending adoption seminars/education (the first seminar we are attending is in February. The top is on openness. Openness is about how open we are about interaction between our child and their birth parents). We will be putting together a picturebook /profile book for New Life to show to potential birth parents.
Our hopes are to be completed with our home study sometime this summer. At that time our profile will be able to be shown to birth parents. From there it's a big 'ole question mark about when we will be chosen and when the baby will be born. It could be quick, but the average waiting period for our agency is 18 months from the start of the process (we are about 3 months in).
We would love your prayers as we complete this process and prepare to be parents of two ! We are excited for Elora to have a sibling and all the joys of having a little baby!
