There are few things in life I have ever done for 100 straight days in a row. However, I have not missed one day of seeing Elora in the hospital - and Peter has missed very few. It's our life right now and in ways we can't imagine anything different. That being said, this road is getting long and we are getting fatigued. In the grand scheme of life this will be a blink - the rest of our life we will get to know and love Elora and that is what is most important :)
It was a big week this last week! I had THREE baby showers within 7 days. They were so much fun and such a blessing to Peter and I as we prepare for having Elora home with us. Last Saturday, August 13 was my due date, which means that she is now 40 weeks gestationally. Surprisingly overall it was not a hugely odd or emotional day for me, which I somewhat expected it would be. Instead it reminded me how far we have come and how we have had the privilege of knowing our daughter for 3 months now.
Elora is growing like crazy. She is now 6 lb, 13 oz and about 19 inches long. Her once blonde hair has now changed to be much darker. Will we have a brunette? Her dimples are showing more clearly (she has a nice deep one on her right cheek - it's so cute!). She is taking about 50% of her feedings by mouth & is still on a little bit of breathing support.
The doctor told us this week that most likely she will be coming home on breathing support. So, that means that Peter and I will need to go through training for using the oxygen tanks and monitors before she leaves. In addition Elora will have surgery for her hernia before she goes home. It is a standard procedure with a quick recovery time, so we are thankful for that. But, we would appreciate your prayers that all would go well. Elora's eyes continue to improve - so much so that she doesn't require a weekly exam any longer - she will now go to bi-weekly exams.
We are so grateful that she is doing well and continuing to grow steadily and healthy. Let the countdown begin to her coming home..hopefully soon!!
I will post pictures from my baby showers shortly..stay tuned!
