Elora's Fall

Earlier this week I was home with Elora. We were in the living room playing and I lef the room to stick some sweet potatoes in the oven for dinner. While I was reaching in the oven I heard a loud THUD and then a piercing cry.  I ran into the room to see Elora on the floor next to the couch sobbing. My guess is that she fell off the arm of the couch onto the hard wood floor. I quickly looked her over and didn't see obvious wounds.  So I just held her and rocked her for a long time and she feel asleep. When she woke and lifted her head off my shoulder I noticed a goose egg and small cut on her forehead. She did fall hard!

Peter got home from work shortly after and we noticed she was not acting like herself. She refused to eat or drink and wanted to be held. She kept putting her head down on my shoulder, sometimes start crying, but overall seemed very lethargic and not herself. It was nearing bedtime and so we decided to take turns rocking her to put her to bed.  I held her for a while and then passed her off to Peter. Shortly after she started vomiting. We knew it was time to take her in.

We quickly cleaned up the mess as quickly as possible and packed a bag for her. We got in the car and headed to the emergency room at Children's Hospital -Minneapolis (same hospital where she was for 4 months after she was born). Thankfully she was able to be seen fairly quickly. Because of the amount of lethargy she was experiencing, they recommended a CT scan to make sure there wasn't any internal bleeding or a scull fracture.

The CT scan was hard to watch (I actually didn't watch - I was too emotional seeing her strapped down and crying. So I left the room - Peter stayed). But, thankfully they got the images they needed and all was well. There didn't seem to be anything to be worried about.

So although we spent an unexpected evening in the emergency room, we were so thankful that all was ok with her after the fall off the couch. She has a bruise and cut on her face still, but it has healed extremely quickly and is hardly noticeable.

We have spent way too much time at Children's Hospital in the last two years. Hopefully we won't be back anytime soon!
